What are the NDIS Practice Standards?

The NDIS Practice Standards ensures that new and registered disability service providers comply with the quality and safety standards set out by NDIS Commission. The NDIS Practice Standards consist of a core module and several supplementary modules that apply according to the type of support and services NDIS providers register and deliver.

The Core Modules Include

• Rights and responsibility for participants

• Governance and Operational Management

• The Provision of supports and

• The Support provision environment

The Supplementary modules include

• Specialist behaviour support, including implementing behaviour support plans

• Early childhood supports

• Specialised support co-ordination

• Specialist disability accommodation

Each module of the NDIS Standards consists of a series of high level, participant focused, outcomes

Each outcome is associated to a number of quality indicators

Method of Assessment

This is for individual sole traders and partnerships delivering lower risk or less complex services. When registering through verification, NDIS Providers supply documentation against the four outcomes within the Verification Module of the NDIS Practice Standards. Verification Audits are a desktop audit which can usually be done off-site.

This is for higher risk, more complex services and supports, and for organizations that are formed as body corporate. A certification audit is required to examine a providers’ governance and operational management processes and their ability to deliver safe and quality services.

Once you submit your application to register with the NDIS Commission, our auditors will assess your organisation against the components of the NDIS Practice Standards relevant to the services you deliver.

An Assessment consists of two stages:

STAGE 1 AUDIT

Stage one Audits are usually completed off-site Audits. You’ll need to provide a completed self-assessment to your assigned auditor for review along with documents such as (policies and procedures). Following a review a stage 1 report will be provided to you and a planning of stage 2 assessment will start

STAGE 2 AUDIT

Stage 2 Audits are completed onsite for certification audits. Our Auditors visit your NDIS Provider office and observe and interview staff and participants. Our assessors will also assess compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards through document review. Once we have concluded assessment, stage 2 report will be prepared and sent you.

While a certificate of verification/certification is used by the NDIS Commission to determine whether an organisation should be registered or not, registration is solely determined by the NDIS Commission at their discretion.
